The following Guitar Method is meant to provide both a practical approach to mastering the necessary skills on the instrument and a simple, practical explanation of the basic theory of music. It is not necessary to understand this musical theory in order to play great music, as many wonderful, untrained musicians have done and continue to do.

However music is literally a language and the more one knows about spelling, grammar, punctuation and most particularly vocabulary, goes a long way to being understood clearly and being able to express oneself eloquently in any language. So some students will prefer to leap ahead to the exercises and practical explanations which, when studied diligently, should provide a sound underpinning to the player’s technique and bag of skills.
